Who Are The Vintage Babies?

Vintage Babies is the title of the collaborative album and super group created by Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and MC, Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh and producer, Dj, and musical director Dj Dummy The Genius collectively known as The Vintage Babies. The Vintage Babies’ album consists of 17 soul and hip hop head bangers and features musical greats like Grammy & Oscar award winning Common, as well as some incredible songwriting and vocal help from Top Dawg’s own SIR, Malik Yusef , and Baltimore’s Rose Gold from the Polly seeds.

Vintage Babies is a Revival of the Soul, Funk, & Gospel sounds that Hip hop was founded on. The aim of Vintage Babies is celebrate the resilience and power of the human spirit through the utilization of the soulful sounds that have gotten us through difficult times in our history and will surely continue to do so for years to come. Vintage Babies will pull on an array of emotional strings sending you into lucid euphoric dance states in one moment then transition you into deep thought provoking storytelling about the state of humanity in the next moment with a little comic relief in between.
This is not the first time Dj Dummy and Maimouna Youssef have collaborated. They have toured together for several years with Rapper/Actor Common and in 2014 they released a mixtape together entitled the Reintroduction of Mumu Fresh. Dj Dummy and Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh are not new to the music scene but if your ears are new to the sounds they’ve been creating and curating for almost a decade then check out their track records.

Dj Dummy has been J Cole’s DJ and on tour Music Direct since 2010 and Common’s DJ and Music Director since 1999. He started out djing at the age of 7 and by 14 he was winning prestigious dj battles in NYC like the Zulu Nation Battle (96) ad American DMC Battle (98). Since then he has both dj’ed and/or created stage shows for artists like Talibe Kewli, Kanye West, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, & De La Soul among others. He has even graced the halls of the prestigious venue affectionately known as The White House per request of 44th President Barack Obama. Dj Dummy is no newbee to the scene but he is just getting started in terms of making a name for himself as a worldwide producer and Vintage Babies is just the beginning.
His talents have attracted many of hip-hop’s premier artists, throughout the years; he has worked closely on creating stage shows and/or DJing concerts all over the world, for the likes of J Cole, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Common, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, Music Soulchild, Mos Def, De La Soul, A+, DMX, Onyx, Smoothe The Hustler, going all the way back to Group Home.
DJ Dummy’s almost 20 year career has seen him electrify numerous clubs, tour internationally and entertained clients such as Prince, LeBron James and Venus Williams. It has seen him DJ in the smallest clubs in Brooklyn, to performing at the White House for President Obama. He has formed unbreakable professional relationships with many iconic artists in the industry and he’s been a part of historic moments in Hip-Hop. And this is only the beginning of DJ Dummy’s legacy, so it’s safe to say, you can certainly learn a lot from a dummy.

Track Name: I Got A Feeling
I GOT A FEELING

Wherever the groove goes
I got to follow
I’m glued to the rhythm like you to the bottle
Souls grow hollow seeking survival
Running from their rival the fear of tomorrow time
Give me a minute
Imma get up in it
Stretch my legs pivot make it drop like a ribbit
I heard the man want his project backs
Well I’m good with that
Think I’m bout ready to jet set
Cuz I got a feeling (Yes Lord)
It’s hunting season (Yes Lord)
Betta run for your freedom (Yes Lord)
Stomping like a heathen
Dancing and a grieving
Heat rising to the ceiling
‘Til the paint get to peeling
‘Til this pain that I’m feeling
Getting down Lord (8x’s)

Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah (3x’s)

Verse2:
Na na na na na
So call it a feeling or say that it’s healing
Lose yourself give it all the way to the spirit
Feeling up the bass, make her wind up her waist
Throw her head back like she alone in the place
Fingers tingling
Baby you’re jingling
Getting free tonight
Ain’t worried ‘bout mingling
Just you and the groove tonight
The music’s getting me through the night
Heyyyy
Betta run for your freedom (Yes Lord)
Stomping like a heathen
Dancing and a grieving
Heat rising to the ceiling
Til the paint get to peeling
Til this pain that I’m feeling

Going down Lord (3x’s)
Get me down Lord
Getting down Lord (4x’s)

Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Higher, take me higher Lord
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Higher Higher
Spinnin and cryin
Tell the devil he’s a liar
Higher Higher
Higher Higher Lord
Higher, fill me, fill me up
Track Name: Run Away
Runaway

Yo Leroy!
What?
Your mama, she’s calling you man
Aww man.
No, no. Not that mama. That foxy mama you were with last night
Oooooo
She’s calling you out on the floor
Oooooo
Show her what you know
Oooooo
She’s calling you out on the floor
Oooooo

There’s something special about this place
Something about your face
Ancient attraction / I feel it taking over me
Why you standing so far / come fill my curiosity
Excitement of the unknown / come on baby trust me

Trust the ocean, letting go
No more fear, lose control
Rides the waves, can you feel the breeze
I feel like I’m dreaming

Keep the motion, getting wet
Moving close, chest to chest
Ride the way, of this fantasy
Come and runaway with me

Runaway with me (Oh)
Runaway with me (Oh)
Runaway with me
Won’t you runaway with me
Runaway with me (Oh)
Runway with me (Runaway with me)
Hey, won’t you runaway with me

Come runaway with me to a place we can both be free
Your lips so buttery, I quiver with joy when you touch me
Completely exposed I’m ready to go deep
See I surrender to this perfect serenity
Trust the ocean (trust the ocean) letting go (letting go)
No more fear (no more fear) lose control
Rides the waves feel the breeze
I feel like I’m dreaming

Keep the motion (keep the motion) getting wet (getting wet)
Moving close (Oh) chest to chest

Come and runaway with me

Track Name: Miracle
Miracle
I am ready, to be vulnerable
I am ready to finally let go
I want to be annoyingly in love
I want let me guard down
I want to step out on faith
I want to dance out in the rain
I need to quit running away
‘cause I’m always on the first train

When an old bag lady
waiting on the red line
On the Northeast side
Looked dead in my eyes and cried
I said “You Good?”
And she sighed, then replied

Hook:
Your miracle is waiting on you
But it can’t come ‘til you’re ready
So baby what you gon’ do?

(repeat)
I am ready to take a chance on life
I am ready to look silly at times, Pride aside
I want to be childishly optimistic
Live my life unscripted

I want to step out on faith
I want to dance out in the rain
I want to quit running away
‘cause I’m always on the first train

When an old bag lady
waiting on the red line
On the Northeast side
Looked dead in my eyes and cried
I said “You Good?”
And she sighed, then replied

Hook:
Your miracle is waiting on you
But it can’t come ‘til you’re ready
So baby what you gon’ do?

You’re worth it
You’re perfect
You deserve it
Quite searching

You’re worth it
You’re perfect
You deserve it
Quite searching

(Repeat 2X)

Quit searching on the outside
You’ll find your miracle in the right time
Make room in your life
Won’t you make room in your life
Your miracle is waiting on you
Track Name: Never Bring Me Down
Never Bring Me Down

I’m tired of you hating ass niggas
Faking like you want to see me win but really trying to do me in
Get under my skin, cuz you resent my confidence
You’d rather see me broken, ‘cuz I ain’t ego stroking
Nah, I’m a brazen heifer
Bad mutha fucka
I grow in the shade
Nigga you created a monster
Fuck what you’re used to
I got that black girl juju
Back water track slaughter
Swagger when I move through

Edges stay fleeky
Sneaker game squeaky
Serving Nefertiti
In that fresh dashiki

You fuck boys jealous of women
I bet you dressing up in my clothes I left in the kitchen
Hate to see me winning,
Scared of my light,
Don’t want to let me shine
I’m the genuine article, I’m a one of a kind
But you love a mediocre bitch
You place her neck to neck with me I swear I’ll choke a bitch
You weak broads make it hard to gain leverage
You’re sucking dicks for deals but I ain’t having none of it
The ground I put them under it
You wouldn’t last a day in my stilettos
Melanin kisses
Genuine thickness
I was made in the ghetto

See Normally I don’t cuss and shit
But you niggas thinking you running shit
And that’s dumb as shit
I ain’t gonna be finished ‘til I’m done with it

I told you I was good for the culture
When I’m winning, we all winning
But you pretending you fucking vulture
Don’t even raise your black fist up
When you see me in the streets don’t even dap me up
You uncle Ruckas mutha fuckas need a Samuel L Jack bitch slap
Yeah I’m talking that Jango
The way we let them thangs go
Don’t want that pie in the sky, I need my cake on my plate
Short me my fries, I’m gonna get out the gate
You stay trying to put me in my place
But I’m already here
A self-aware black woman is your worst fear

Hook:
I don’t have no time for waiting all around for
I don’t really want no, hangers on my rain coat
Please sir, vultures all around
Please sir, why you wanna bring me down

Look at what you made me, God please save me
From mine enemies creeping all around me
Please sir, I can feel them now
Please sir never gonna bring me down

2nd verse:
Now don’t get me wrong
I love my brothers
I give you all your propers
But don’t be mad at me ‘cuz I’m a show stopper
Yeah I’m a jaw dropper
Flyer than a helicopter
Read you like a teleprompter
But I’ll never tell a cop’a

I’m a boss no bitch suffix is necessary
Very hard body like Chevy
I’m colder than January
Hold all of your commentary
Don’t need no more promissories
I told you that you ain’t ready
Lot men can’t deal with women of my caliber
If you can’t control her, fuck her, own her then you mad at her
I walk by smelling like ylang ylang and lavender
But my body is mine sir, go and get a cavalier
Tell me how I’m fucking for what’s already mine,
Shit it I earned it
I worked hard for every gotdamn dime,
Only concerned with
My money being brought on time,
And when the revolution popping off, I’m on front line

Sometimes being a woman is like being black twice
I Gotta scream fire instead of rape
And you tell me act nice
Look pretty
Stay slim
Don’t talk loud
Don’t think
Don’t feel
Don’t act proud
But if I’m at my lowest, how are you 100 percent?
God made women and man for the balance of it
So will the real men please stand up
And defend what God made signing off with love

Hook:
I ain’t have no time for , waiting all around for
I don’t really want no, hangers on my rain coat
Please sir, vultures all around
Please sir, why you wanna bring me down

Look at what you made me, God please save me
From mine enemies creeping all around me
Please sir, I can feel them now, please sir you’re never
Gonna bring me down

And I Know, I know, I know
Licking off shots like, blaaow blaow blaow
We be bustin shots like, blaaow blaow blaow
We be bustin shots like blaaow blaow blaow
Licking off shot like blaaow blaaow blaaow
Track Name: Not Ready Yet
Not Ready Yet

Ay ay ay ay
Verse 1
I know you want to be holding me close
Say I’m the only woman that you love
See
But it’s not working
See it don’t work when my words you ignore
You can be so damn confusing at times
Speak like a king but you act like a child
And its not working see
I know the greatest you were meant to be
I can, show you, to the, river
But I, can not, I can not make you drink
Pre Hok:
I see God in your eyes, you make me blush so much sweetness inside
Gone off your melanin high
Blacker than blueberry pie
I, gotta fly higher than the sun
And you’re just learning to run
Not saying that you’re not the one
I’m just saying that

Hook:
You’re just not ready yet
You got some growing up to do
Promise I’ll circle back
And check up on you (before I take off)

You’re just not ready yet
You got some growing up to do
Promise I’ll circle back
To check up on you ( before I take off)

Verse 2:

Ain’t No love lost, On the right day I might still break you off
I’m giving you the time and space to grow at your own pace
See I don’t want to judge , It’s not a race
If it’s really love, It will find a way
If it ain’t enough bless you anyway
My homie you’ll always stay
Cuz, I can show you to the river but I can not,
I can not make you drink

Pre Hook:
I see God in your eyes, you make me blush so much sweetness inside
Gone off your melanin high
Blacker than blueberry pie
I, gotta fly higher than the sun
And you’re just learning to run
Not saying that you’re not the one
I’m just saying that

You’re not ready yet
You got some growing left to do
Promise I’ll circle back and check up on you

You just ain’t, you just ain’t ready yet
You got some growing left to do
Promise I’ll circle back and check up on you
Before I take off, not ready yet

Breakdown:
I’m just riding around your way
Pumping up that bass
Winding up my waist
Making windows shake
I’m riding around your way
Pumping up that bass
Winding up my waist
How long you gon’ make me wait

Cuz I’m hot like a sauna
Give me what I wanna
Give me what I wanna
Why you alway frontin’
Cuz I’m hot like a sauna
Give me what I wanna
Give me what I wanna
You don’t be ‘bout nothing

Hook repeats
Track Name: Never Lie To You
Never Lie To You

Verse 1:
He like girl you’re beautiful
My one and only
You my special one I call when I’m lonely
I think you’re gifted
Yup you’re a winner
Here’s an invitation to my place for dinner
I want you so bad, I can’t wait for it
Can’t you see my love is blind, i’ll even pay for it
What’s your vice girl
I want to get you loose
What’s your preference
Mary Jane or Grey Goose
You getting down with that syrup or you need a boost
This ya first time trust me I got you
Relax girl I got you
I’d never lie to you

Insincere words for insecure girls
Births real bitter bitches in the world
She home cooking in the kitchen
You gone fishing
Too many in the sea to settle for chicken
That’s how goldfish become piranhas
Now she’s wreaking havoc as somebody’s baby mama
I Wish you had’ve warned her
Now you’re mad talking ‘bout she ain’t shit
But you played a big part in all of it if you’ll admit
She’s everything you made her
You never should have played her
You ain’t wanna save her
Wish a real man had’ve raised her
To love herself more than compliments and paper

Hook: I’d never fool you with those words that hungry girls have heard whispered in the dark

Verse 2:
She like boo I miss you
Wanna be near you
Can you make some time
I need to feel you
I’m at the Marriott
Down on 4th street
I’ll even pay for the cab
Just come and meet me
I’m feeling kinky
Won’t you and king me?
You’re the only one that I’m loving in between the sheets
You’re something special
You’re on my level
The best I’ve ever had out of only several
Let’s get away on a day for a vacay
I got them edibles that will make you levitate
Before it gets late
Hold on baby wait
(who you talking to?)
Huh? It’s no body just my mother baby

She so scandalous
No matter how the man is
Hurt feelings just collateral damages
She so thirsty / With no mercy
She got that live in D to pay the rent fee
Call him her roommate
She stay out late
She got that good cake
Loose like Chipotle
But she living a lie
And he feeling the fire
Don’t you look in her eyes
Having you catching a vibe
She keep her body right
She know what men like
She treat him like a king but pimp him on the side
She let that biscuit and that fry drive her nigga’s ride
No class all ass and plenty of pride

Common’s Verse:
Now I am supposed to be conscious
And I heard love conquers all
My bloodline don’t love swine
Thugs grind everyday for a better way
I serenade you you for forgiveness
‘Cause I hit once does that make her my mistress
Love is a trip let’s go the distance
You know where we from
We can overcome resistance
Power power to the people
The people that put the work in
Cause we all know that
Nothin is for sure nothin’ is for certain
But ‘til we leave this earth free it’s just you and me
That’s what she meant by U N I T Y
Let me lead by example
The you I fell in love with them other girls I ran through
Girl you got that light know they can’t hold a candle to you
Come sit by your guru
Let’s play D’s Voodoo let these words speak to you
Its crucial
(echo) Let’s play D’s Voodoo let these words speak to you
Track Name: Pimp Down Feat. Eddie Bryant
Pimp Down
7 days in a quarantine and I’m fiending like a dope fiend
Baby what I do or say
That makes you treat me this way
Ice cold say “don’t call him,
Girl we’re doing fine without him.
Soon we’ll forget about him”
But I’m missing you
Pimp Down

Hook:
Pimp down in a pool of love
I’m swimming in it, drowning can’t get enough
Pimp Down in a pool of love
I’m missing you baby can we make up
Pimp down in a pool of love
I’m swimming in it, drowning can’t get enough
Pimp Down in a pool of love
Im calling your phone N*gga Pick Up

*voicemail*

Verse 2
See normally I’m the one breaking bad
Just to show these mofos
I’m running that
Baby my pride can’t handle it
My ego’s shouting like an evangelist (like, answer the phone)
Im sending you love emojis
You respond nonchalant
Pissing me off low key
I call my friends for a girls night
Gotta find a sweet thing to slow wine
Dance all night and have a good time
I Drank too much but baby I’m fine
Until
I’m drunk texting like stalker
Come climb up my walls baby imma call you Peter Parker
Saying I ain’t never felt this way before
In the morning I’ll regret this and so much more

Track Name: Work In Progress
WORK IN PROGRESS

I want to be a good role model to girls coming after
But sometimes I slip up and say some shit that’s ratchet
Forgive me I’m a work in progress
Most days I’m conscious still I’m a product of my west baltimore environment
So please excuse the nigga in me
If I get out of pocket in my first class seat
If i don’t give a fuck ‘bout what you saying to me
If I’m too big for my britches then give me a sheet
I need room to grow
I’m still figuring it out
And if you say you ain’t, you lying
Hell you talking ‘bout
Balancing single parenting with music business leveraging
can get discouraging
My mind stay worrying
Every morning I just keep emerging
To try again
Consummating paper to pen
French toast scrambled eggs, hot toddy with Gin
Homeschool my baby boy to make his mind a weapon
He the coolest dude I ever known I grateful for him
He an angel how you saying that we made him in sin
Me and my baby father just couldn’t keep it together
He say I hit him in his mouth, don’t believe what he tell you
Some things are only meant for a season
I used to hate him now I tell him thank you when I see him
I was the plant, he was the seed, love and pain watered us and a man child came to be
Most things aint meant forever
May 22nd 2007 we split up
I slept in a car breastfeeding a baby for half a year
For reasons like pride and fear
I been through so much shit I’m surprised I’m still standing
So every time I see a mirror I pose damnit
It’s a celebration, every time I’m waking
Even if my angels wake me out my dreams shaking I’m saying
One love to my nephew Khalil
You’re a king, I can see why God chose you for HIS
And through your two sons forever you’ll live
These Baltimore streets ain’t deserve you kid
And if we find them muthafuckers then you know what it is
My bad, I ain’t supposed to be talking like this
but this pain don’t contain Political correctness
I let it pour out however it come, for ever son, of every mother who never gets to recover
Still trying to find new reasons to live
To keep moving forward, now with a rawness
Like the north wind that ravaged the garden freezing it over
Praying to God to one day to get over
Gwenie We gotta get over still throwing salt over shoulders and if the devil’s a boulder then God is Mount Everest and Imma die climbing up that bish, Go tell it on the mountain

Hook:
Go Tell it on the mountain
Lean not unto your own understanding
OOH, it will lead you astray but trust in the Lord it will be okay,
The mountain

The cup that is already full
Can not receive what God has to pour into
I learned that from my grandma and she never finished school
Her neck should have been bear from all the dropping of her jewels
She heard it in the whispering of the wind
Spread the news
Good things come to those who wait and pay their dues
Little Mississippi never had a pair of shoes ‘til she hit the windy city now she’s got 22
But moving up ain’t always moving right
But trust in the lord and He will give you new sight.
To see the unseen
And know the unknown
Instead of living through the tiny window of your ego
I ain’t got the answers Sway but this I know
We’re all works in progress trying to find our way home on the mountain
Hook:
Go Tell it on the mountain
Lean not unto your own understanding
OOH, it will lead you astray but trust in the Lord it will be okay,
The mountain
Track Name: Say My Name
SAY MY NAME

If I should die tomorrow at the hands of the policeman
And the papers say
We're going to call it a suicide, would you even question why
Would you shake your head and say the ain't right
Or do your best to forget about me
Please, please, please don't forget about me

Ohhhh, say my name
Say my name
Say my name
Say my name
Say my name
Don't forget my name

Say my name
Don’t forget my name

If I should die tomorrow
At the hands of the policeman
And the papers say, we're going to call it a suicide
Would you even question why
Would you believe in my innocence
Would you even come to my defense
Would you believe in the good I’ve done
Or will my name be smeared and my story unsung
Will you search for the answers or take what they hand us
Who's going to stand with me
Please please please don't forget about me

Ohhhh, Say my name
Say my name
Say my Name
Say my name
Don't forget my name

Say my name
Don’t let it be in vain

Rap:
Even the sun goes down
Heroes eventually die
Shot with their hands in the sky
Your favorite revolutionaries give up and comply
For a house on the hills, white wife, couple mills
I'm last of Mohicans I guess
Fighting for a cause they say is lost but I can't let it rest
Rebellion in the mammaries of my mama's breasts
And I drank ‘til I was drunk, like I was lean off that Crunk.
We living every word that we rapping about
And the struggle it gets hard but we ain't backing out
Nothing is impossible
The word alone says I’m Possible
So I'm the racehorse that I'm riding for
The audacity of hope
To believe we can succeed when everybody and their momma say nope
Well F ya'll
I’m different, descendent of the fittest
Reincarnated just so I can handle business
My name, oh say my name, say my name

I’m different, descendent of the fittest
Reincarnated just so I can handle business
My name, you know my name, so say my name
Don’t forget my name

I’m different, descendent of the fittest
Reincarnated just so I can handle business
Say her name, say her name
Don’t forget her name

Don’t let her struggle be in vain
So say her name
She ain’t die in vain

Track Name: Live Love Shine Feat. Malik Yusef
Live, Love, Shine

(Dialect Vocalizing)

Live Life Love Shine
This light turns me on
Live Life Love Shine
This Light Turns me on
Live Life learn shine
This Light Turns me on
Live Life Learn shine
This Light turns me on

Wait on the Lord
Your turn will come
Just you wait on the lord
Your time will come

You’ve been wondering why it gets so hard at times
God knows if it was easy
You’d forget to believe, believe me
Look at all that you’ve become
Battered in the soil
Baked in the sun
You are the chosen one
Lost in the wilderness

Heavy is the head
Stoney is the road
Still is the water
That restores my soul
